Stranger Things A Trip Down 80’s Memory Lane
For those of you who grew up in the 80’s or on the cusps of the 80’s the latest netflix tv series of Stranger Things takes you on a nostalgic journey through a ton of awesome 80’s movies referencing some of the greats. The show starts out with a group of kids playing D&D – which should remind you of movies like ET, and the fact the the group of kids is tight nit and go on adventures – the similarities to The Goonies is also apparent with the two age groups of middle school and high school kids. As […]
Should I be worried about Ebola?
The media as usual has done a good job of over-hyping the ebola outbreak. In fact there really isn’t an outbreak here in the US, just some unlucky people in the healthcare industry who were given bad instructions and may or may not have had common sense when it comes to traveling. Ebola is a hemorrhagic fever type of disease and is not airborne, similar to HIV/AIDS. You could even have it touch your skin and not get it, unless you have an open wound. Our government has just done a poor job and bungled the whole issue – the […]
Happy New Year 2013
Well, we’ve made it to yet another year here on the Institute’s website. This year we’ve really accomplished jack squat. Next year, I suspect will be similar with one exception – if I don’t get any writers who want to help, I may shift focus slightly to fatherhood since this year I became one. So my New Years’ resolution would be to post a bit more than last year – and that should be pretty easy right? I think we didn’t even get once per month. Next, would be to post more original content – I think this is where […]
2012 Bringing in the New Year and Remembering the Past
While its been a slow year on this site it hasn’t been a slow year for us. On the manly front we’ve seen good progress on all things manly. In politics we have a good selection of mostly conservative candidates shaping up for the 2012 election. As we come to a close on this year its time to take stock and consider what next year will bring. I’m not sure what direction this site will take next year. I do think a redesign is in order to something a bit more snazzy and even less newsy as far as […]
Privacy – Disappearing at the speed of war.
American life is experiencing massive amounts of day to day technology not present a decade ago. Most of these developments are in areas surrounding ‘public safety’. Why? Because war drives production process innovation and research on new products. Several areas that benefit our civilian terrorists surveillance infrastructure evolved out of military necessity in the middle east. As if we were in an unwritten chapter in Orwell’s 1984 – we get ‘The Gorgon Stare’. The reaper drone that host’s this system can fly one path while recording an entire city and present 65 image streams simultaneously to end users who can select a […]
Institute of Man’s Happy New Year : Manly Resolutions
Every year the profusion of New Years Resolutions that I have to listen too makes me feel weary. I always here the same things repeated over and over. This year I am going to loose weight. This is the last cigarette I ever have. This year I’m going to exercise every day. I’m going to finally get that promotion I always wanted. No more cholesterol for me. There are two basic problems with these resolutions. The first is that people make them and they know ahead of time that they are never going to follow up. Maybe for the first […]
Merry Christmas from The Institute of Man
From all of us at the Institute of Man, Merry Christmas. We hope that you have a manly, Christmas filled with manly presents. But more importantly, we hope that you take the time to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas, which is not presents, or gifts, unless you count the three wise men…
John Wayne on Voting
“Our country thrives on change… no guns or bombs or Army coups… just the biggest and best weapon of all, our right to vote. X’s on paper. The ballot box, a good thing.”
Fathers Day Weekend And Gift Ideas
For the love of God, don’t get dear old dad a tie or a pair of socks, or some goofy golf balls. Get him something he’ll like as this year is the 100th anniversary of Fathers Day. It should be a memorable day and/or weekend. Every single red-blooded American man has a yearning to stand in front of a grill and smell flaming carcass. That’s why an important gift may be something as simple as a grill, or some new bbq tools. Remember, they don’t want a cook book or cooking advice as they have most likely had years to […]
June 6th, 1944 (D-Day) Operation Overlord
Yesterday there wasn’t much fan-fare or discussion of D-Day in the major media outlets – as expected. The have become less and less involved in remembering our past as they beat the drum of “looking to the future and forgetting the past” when we should be doing the exact opposite of looking to the future and remembering the past so we don’t make the same mistakes.[…]

Our History: Our blogging history goes waaaaaay baaack. Actually in “internet time” it does – we started before blogger hit mainstream […]
