This year for fathers day think about giving your father the gift of libation, tobacco, or something timeless – non- electronic device/gadget. Consider a pocket knife. Pocket knives are timeless. When taken care of properly they will last a lifetime. Generally you always need a knife when you don’t have one. To open a box, to cut a piece of plastic zip tie, to cut a piece of cheese or fruit. Pocket knives have slowly gone out of style for a bunch of reasons, airline restrictions, work restrictions etc. Don’t let these imposed regulations dictate you carrying a […]
That’s why we have to have green energy and recycle today because the previous generation was a very wasteful generation. At least that’s what they are telling everyone. When you hear someone talk about being wasteful, I want you to remember reading this story: How Wasteful the Older Generation Was In the line at the store, the cashier told the older woman that she should bring her own grocery bag because plastic bags weren’t good for the environment. The woman apologized to him and explained, “We didn’t have the green thing back in my day.” The clerk responded, “That’s our […]
Even though more jobs were added, unemployment increased from 8.8 to 9% and that doesn’t count the number of underemployed or not reported. CNN: The unemployment rate edged up to 9.0%, ending a streak of four straight months of declines. Economists had forecast it would remain unchanged at 8.8%. The rate often increases as the job market improves and previously discouraged workers return to labor force. An additional 113,000 people who were not counted among the unemployed in March, re-entered the labor force in April.
From here. Although he’s traditionally seen as an American hero (remember, though, he is an alien), Superman is fed up with being connected to the USA. According to the Comics Alliance blog (and reported by BoingBoing), in Action Comics #900 Superman tells the president‘s national security adviser that he’s had enough of the Red, White, and Blue. Just when I thought things couldn’t get any stranger, this popped up into my view and I had to bring it up. I don’t know about you but since when did Truth, Justice, and the American Way start being a bad concept? I […]
Gold yesterday hit $1500 an ounce. Silver today shows at $44 an ounce. Last year around this time I went to my local silver dealer and bought some silver at $18 an ounce. When a commodity like gold and silver hit these high of numbers its a window into how much less the dollar is worth as we’re seeing inflation rear its ugly head. There are consequences to borrowing more money, raising the debt limit as our treasury keeps monetizing our debt.
Today we heard things like: “We have to live within our means.. get back on a path to pay down our debt” “We will all need to make sacrifices” These are talking points for beginning to discuss cutting the deficit by 4 trillion dollars in 12 years. It used to be 10 years he’s now adjusted it to 12 to make sure that they don’t start actually doing anything until after the election. I’m sorry pushing off 2 years to actually doing something isn’t going to cut it this time. I’m tired of just hearing talking points and seeing no […]
So you want to recondition or refurbish your old smoker? So do I. We’ve put together this walk through on how we worked on this old smoker and hopefully it will serve as a guide for any of you out there who are thinking about the same thing. I was given BBQ smoker by a friend of mine that needed some serious TLC as it had sat outside exposed to the elements for years. After setting forth a game plan, I engaged a buddy of mine at PowersGaming who has experience in doing this and we documented the process as […]
From Fox. The U.S. fired four additional Tomahawk missiles at Libya air defense systems Sunday, bringing the grand total to 124, a senior U.S. Defense official tells Fox News. Previously: From CNN. American and British ships and submarines fired more than 110 Tomahawk cruise missiles and hit about 20 Libyan defense targets in western portions of the country, U.S. Vice Adm. William Gortney said at a Saturday Pentagon briefing. Nineteen U.S. warplanes, including stealth bombers and fighter jets, conducted strike operations in Libya on Sunday morning, officials said. Tomahawk cruise missiles are unmanned and fly close to the ground, steering […]
From here. The Medicare actuary shed light on this so-called “double counting” last year in an April 22 memo. “In practice,” he wrote, “the improved Part A financing cannot simultaneously be used to finance other Federal outlays (such as the coverage expansions under the PPACA) and to extend the trust fund, despite the appearance of this result from the respective accounting conventions.” “There is an issue here on the budget because your own actuary has said you can’t double-count,” Shimkus said. “You can’t count — they’re attacking Medicare on the CR when their bill, your law, cut $500 billion from […]
Being gentlemen who enjoy fine tobacco we regularly sample different blends of pipe tobacco. I recently re-discovered The Tinderbox – online. Previously I went to their store when they had one in Beaumont Texas, but alas it was closed some years ago. Now they have an online store, at least they did until today. Apparently they are now under new management one can only hope that they continue to sell the same great blends and tobacco. So maybe this review is coming to you a bit too late. I’ve previously ordered several sample blends but I came across something different: […]
This is pretty sad news and I haven’t seen any of the major news agencies reporting it. He died at the ripe old age of 110 yesterday the 27th of February. He died in his sleep at his farm in West Virginia. Men of this caliber are rarely seen today. Original Source of his biography located here, and here. Frank Woodruff Buckles’ life spans the awesome, horrible, fantastic, dreadful Twentieth Century. He has seen and experienced much. As America’s last surviving veteran witness to the First World War, his life experiences and perspective are a living artifact in our day […]
